This was once a Player Piano, but the Player mechanism has been removed. My piano students love opening up the sliding window in the music desk to see into the interior of the piano to watch the hammers at work as they strike the strings. A second sliding door is located above the pedals, where the Player-Piano footpump pedals once folded out to pump the bellows. Both can be opened to increase volume, brightness and tone color.

The most striking feature of this piano is the highly figured 'Angel-Wing' bookmatch walnut-burl veneer that covers this piano with myriad patterns and colors ranging from golden to mauve, maroon to yellow-orange, and more. All panels, front and sides are 'bookmatched', meaning that the right and left halves are mirror images cut from the same piece of wood.

In the right lighting, this piano will shimmer with an iridescence that will move as the light source is shifted, like tortoise shell or mother-of-pearl.

The legs are rounded columns as are the pillars on all four corners of this piano.
